Balancing Each Other with Chakras

Over many years of working with energies I have developed rather tender sensitivities to energy flow through my body. There are times when I am able to hear the humming of the aura; feel grounding spirals rooting me deeply into earth; see colors and sparks of energy moving through meridians; experience deep influence of cosmic energies flowing through my center and many other sensations particular to energetic awareness.

It wasn’t until I had severe jet-lag after traveling across multiple time zones when I learned that chakras can be a life-saver when trying to rebalance energy after strenuous travel. But here’s the lovely part: It wasn’t MY Chakras that came to the rescue, it was someone else’s!

After suffering from exhaustion and being homesick while on the last in a long line of trips spanning almost 8 months, I was finally flying home. My mind had been able to  convince itself to stay strong and focused to get me across the finish line, but my energy systems just couldn’t be fooled in the same way. After landing in Toronto, my boyfriend met me  at the airport and whisked me away to a forest sanctuary – where it is easy to connect with the trees, the water, birds, deer, and the blue sky. But despite these idyllic surroundings, the jet lag I felt affected my appetite, mood, sense of humor, and stamina.  I had the jet lag funk!

Bed time rolled around and I slid under the covers. On one hand I was very tired but on the other I was very restless. My mind was unsettled and firing off like a thousand crickets. My boyfriend knew I was scattered and lay down beside me. He quietly wrapped his arms around my body and very soon I felt as if I was inside a cozy pod. The warmth of his body and arms created soothing comfort. My breathing evened out and began synchronizing with his.  A sense of peace began moving through me.

To my surprise, my chakras seemed to sense the healthy anchors of my boyfriend’s chakras, and they began to activate themselves and increase their vibrations. My base chakra started to weave very slow figure 8s. It felt as if it was humming and weaving its energy to the tone of a bass guitar. Wide-stroke figure 8s were connecting his base chakra with mine making me more grounded and stable, more safe and secure. He was motionless and only his chest was rising up and down with every breath. I became motionless too, observing the inner weave of figure 8s slowing my nervous system and agitated brain down. The journey through all of the chakras continued all the way to my crown. At every chakra the vibration was different from the last one. The thousand crickets melted away from my mind, pacified by the tranquil flow of weaving chakra energy. After only a few minutes, I was sound asleep.

In her book “Energy Medicine,” Donna Eden wrote about the base chakra being like a pilot light for all the other chakras to become active. For the first time in my life I witnessed directly what she meant by a “pilot light.” It felt like there was the presence of an invisible force which had full authority to order my physical body to return to balance. Connecting to a healthy anchor, in this case my boyfriend, created an energetic circuit that reunited me with the part of earth where I landed.

In the morning I woke up at my regular time for this time zone. I felt rested and recuperated, ate a normal breakfast and followed all my normal daily tasks without any signs or symptoms I had been experiencing just 8 hours ago.  I was back on my feet, totally free of jet lag. Reflecting back on what had happened, it reminded me how mothers will hold their restless babies close to their hearts. Pretty soon, the baby’s heart will sync with the mothers, which soothes the infant. I am far from being a baby but I am a strong believer in holding each other tenderly in our arms so energies can rebalance their flow, soothe the nervous system and relax an overwhelmed mind.

Human to human connection is a priceless element of maintaining a balanced life force running through the body and keeping it healthy. Every time we touch or hold each other we breathe life into the other, helping to  give them a chance to overcome challenges and return to balance.
