Holiday COMPOTE for Digestive Joy!

Here is my favourite HOLIDAY digestive “regulator” made by my grandma when I was a little girl. I keep it as a tradition at my home. It tastes delicious and smells delicious. Try it for yourself. Be creative and free to adjust this recipe.

Dry Prunes: 15-20

Apples: 2 fresh and some dehydrated

Ginger: (1- 2 inches) with the peel and cut in slices

Fresh or dry orange peel from 1 orange

Some fresh lemon peel (no white part as it is bitter)

2 Cinnamon sticks

Few whole cloves to your taste

Maple syrup to your taste or a bit of sugar

1.5 L of water: bring to boil and simmer ingredients for 20 mins. Let it sit for 10 mins. Drink it hot or cold. Leftovers store in the fridge. You can eat the fruits.

Drink it daily, especially before a big meal. It’s warming to the vital organs. I use about 1/2 cup of compote and add about 1 cup of hot water.

Play with proportions. You may like it less rich cinnamon flavour…. follow your taste. I like more ginger and more lemon peel.

Enjoy!
