Recently I was on a bus when the lady sitting next to me asked if I ever see oversized floating shapes around trees. She described them as being like a human aura, different colours, movements, and energetic forms.
It is not often we meet people who speak openly about energy systems in public places, so naturally we had a beautiful conversation. I have always loved the subject of auras.
My eyes often catch shapes, waves, and neon-like glows around other people’s fields. Over time I have noticed certain patterns. When the colours seem greyish, faded, or weak, I often sense the person is struggling and deprived of life-force. This can be a serious condition. Yet when someone is sick and their aura remains bright, clear, and vibrant, I know there is still strong vitality available to help them overcome the issue.
An aura is like a living thumbprint. It is unique to each person. It contains information, but that information is encoded in a language of colour, geometry, vibration, movement, and light. Most of us are never taught how to read these signals, yet many people sense them more than they realize.
We perceive the world through our ordinary senses. Our eyes, ears, skin, nose, and mouth help us navigate time and space. They tell us about comfort. They warn us of danger. And they reveal beauty, sound, warmth, and the environment around us.
But the aura gives us something more subtle. It gives us an energetic sense.
It can act as a bridge between the physical world and the world beyond ordinary perception. It connects us to many vibrations in our surroundings. It helps filter energies moving toward us and energies moving outward from us.
Have you ever suddenly known something, yet had no idea how you knew it and how it arrived at your awareness? That mysterious inner knowing may travel through unseen pathways of energy carrying encoded information. In that sense, we are all intuitive. We all have access to a deeper intelligence. The aura is part of that awareness system. It can act as a guardian of our personal space while also expressing information about who we are. What enters our field from outside can affect us deeply and may disturb the natural homeostatic balance of body, mind, and spirit.
Donna Eden often compares the aura to an antenna—both receiver and transmitter. She teaches that illness may appear in the aura before it manifests in the physical body, and she offers many exercises designed to support auric integrity.
What Weakens the Aura?
The aura can become compromised from within, and it can also be disturbed by outside influences. Often the more imbalance we create internally, the easier it becomes for the outer field to lose strength. Our thoughts, emotions, habits, behaviours are the source of inner conditions. Too much negativity, constant haste, resentment, emotional overload, addictive patterns, lack of rest, or neglect of our deeper needs can all disturb the protective wholeness of the field. Some distortions may feel like cracks, hollowness, thinning, or fragmentation. The natural cooperation of the energetic geometry may become disorganized.
Everything within the field moves with purpose. Its purpose is harmony. It helps support the biological, mental, emotional, and spiritual systems so they can work together. But life can be difficult, and many of us unknowingly contribute to our own energetic depletion.
The encouraging truth is that what has been weakened can also be strengthened.
How I Began Restoring My Aura
Living in a big city and working indoors had slowly separated me from some of the greatest sources of nourishment available to us: sunlight, fresh air, wind, rain, earth, silence, and natural rhythm. My mind and heart had become trapped in modern habits. I felt altered and fragmented and I wanted to return to myself. Isolation from nature stripped me from tender connection with the world and people around me.
To support my own auric field, I had to learn to become strong from within.
I began paying attention to my emotional states, restless thoughts, and repeated behaviours. Instead of judging myself, I became curious. I became a witness to my own internal chaos.
That curiosity led to self-discovery.
Self-discovery led to awareness.
Awareness led to honesty.
And honesty led me closer to authenticity.
My Favourite Practice: The Hook-Up
One of my favourite exercises for strengthening the aura became the Hook-Up, a well-loved Eden Method technique. It connects the Central and Governing Meridians, helping energy organize and distribute through the centers of the body. This connection is crucial for the two flows to move as one. When they move as one, a Microcosmic Orbit manifests.
Many people use it to nourish their body, feel grounded; experience confidence and safety; calm emotional chaos; encourage sleep; restore focus; rebalance during stressful times.
Instructions for the Hook-Up
- Place the middle finger of one hand in your navel and gently pull upward. If after a minute or two this doesn’t feel like it is doing anything, push your finger down and hold.
- Place the middle finger of the other hand between your eyebrows and gently pull upward.
- Close your eyes. This helps with internal focus.
- Breathe deeply: in through the nose, out through the mouth.
- Hold the tip of your tongue behind your upper teeth. Holding your tongue behind front teeth helps energy move down towards your heart and around the center of the body. I always encourage people to put a good message into the heart. Your heart will distribute this message to all the cells.
Hold this posture for three breaths, three minutes, or longer.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Stand barefoot with your back against a tree to feel energy filling up your aura.
- Trace your “Belt Flow” before and after. Belt Flow grounds and expands your aura.
Through this exercise, you create a united flow of energy that can restore a sense of wholeness and help you function in a more synchronized way.
Donna Eden also teaches the Celtic Weave, one of her favourite methods for coordinating the body’s many energy systems, especially the auric field. It is another excellent exercise when you feel scattered, depleted, or disconnected. Eden’s Method School for Energy Healing offers many ideas for energetic harmony.
Final Thoughts
Whether you see auras or not is not the most important thing. Your field is always speaking. Pay attention to how you feel and what thoughts keep you stuck in repetitive negativity. Get creative with your mind. Give it a template for transformation. Practice appreciation of small things.
Even the simplest practices—conscious breathing, grounding, time in nature, and present-moment awareness—can help keep your aura strong, clear, and whole.
